I was born in 1977 in Shrewsbury and shortly moved to a town called Bewdley, situated on the river Severn in Worcestershire. I attended Bewdley High School and left in 1995 with A-Levels in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. After school I decided to take a gap year and trained as an instructor at the Malvern Hills Outdoor Centre, continuing to work there, on and off, for 6 years. I obtained a Honours degree in Physics in 1999 from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth which is a stunning place to study if, like me, you can’t be dealing with the hassle of inner city life. Being attracted back to Worcestershire I found a job as a radar engineer with QinetiQ designing military radars. During my time at QinetiQ I lived on a narrowboat and, due to not having mains power, became interested in renewable energy systems. This led to a fascination in self sustainability and the design/engineering of wind turbines, water power etc.

In 2005 I was invited to join Dick Strawbridge and family to help with the BBC2 program ‘It’s Not Easy Being Green’, so I sold the boat, and moved to sunny Cornwall. Having the same outlook as Dick, ie it should be possible to build anything, the projects were all a success. Since then I have worked on several TV shows and there will hopefully be more to come.

I am passionate about all aspects of science and engineering and love classic cars. I was the technical officer and chief judge the Austin A30/A35 Owners Club and like to build contraptions of all sorts. I play guitar, mandolin and bass and am obsessed with fireworks and pyrotechnics.
